In the exhibition “I watched myself in a red melon tree” Fabian Widukind Penzkofer presents the two series “Weightless” and “Bots”, which deal with the coexistence and interplay of different forms of life. In his series Bots, Penzkofer uses embroidery and fabric collage to explore the interfaces between plant, animal and human life, as well as robotics. The works oscillate between painting and relief, picture and sculpture, scary and beautiful. The works in the series Weightless show ultra-thin, embroidered drawings of people, who seem to be moving in a dreamlike state, seemingly freed from gravity, in a floral environment. Their expression is reminiscent of dance-like communication, whereby they are always focused on themselves, their counterpart, or their group.
